The turducken - the chicken-stuffed-in-a-duck Christmas dinner delicacy - has taken on a new meaning, after a duck fathered a chicken in Dubai.
Researchers at the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory have injected a chicken's germ cells into the reproductive organs of a male duck embryo, and when the duck matured, it began producing the chicken's sperm, according to Time NewsFeed.
Scientists plan to use the technique to allow hens to lay the eggs of other birds, with the ultimate goal being to save endangered species, or even bring back extinct ones.
The Dubai team worked closely with the Roslin Institute, who were behind the world's first cloned animal, Dolly the Sheep.
