THE GRUMPY CAT

THE GRUMPY CAT
Looks familiar? This is one of the most popular memes in social media today.

Did you think this picture was edited? Actually it's not.

Just when you think you can’t take another cute cat video… here comes the Grumpy Cat. Meet Tartar Sauce, a cat whose faced has launched a thousand memes.

Tartar Sauce, also known as Tard, became an internet sensation after her photo was posted on Reddit on September 22, 2012. It was suggested that the original photo was photoshopped, so Tartar Sauce’s owner Bryan Bundesen posted a few videos on YouTube. The videos went viral and he and his family decided to start GrumpyCats.com.

Bryan isn’t exactly sure about Grumpy Cats' breed; but she looks nothing like her mother or father. She looks similar to a Ragdoll or Showshoe; but there have never been any of that breed around the house. Her mom is a calico domestic short hair cat and her father has grey and white stripes. (Though he suppose there could be a different father, promiscuous cats you know…)

Tartar Sauce visited the vet at the beginning of October and they said she is healthy. They said her shape and size could be genetic or neurological and that they could do test to determine which; but since she is healthy we decided not to poke and prod her. If she seems ill Bryan may look further into it; but she will receive regular checkups!

“We think she looks so grumpy you can’t help but feel happy when you look at her,” said Bryan. “She’s like a stress reliever for everyone.”

Once Tartar Sauce’s sour puss face hit the internet she received instant fame, and her scowl is now available on t-shirts and Christmas cards.
