A wonderful portrait of an interpretation of the Greek goddess Gaia marks the beginning of the final chapter in the project Kirsty Mitchell's Wonderland.
The photographer, 36, build Surrey, dedicates his incredible series photo to his late mother Maureen, an English teacher who spent his life inspiring generations of children with imaginative stories and playing.
Following Maureen death from a brain tumor in 2008, Kirsty channeled his grief into his passion for photography.
Photographic series started as a small project in the summer but has grown into a creative journey stimulus.
'Turning the fact that it has grown the concept of creating an unexplained storybook without words, dedicated to her [my mother], which echo the fragment of fairytales she read to me constantly as a child,' said by the artist, who was named the first woman Nikon UK Ambassador for Fine Art Photography in July.
The latest addition is a powerful and emotional outlook of the Greek version personification of Mother Earth, Gaia, the creator and giver of birth to the Earth and all of the Universe: the heavenly gods, the Titans and the Giants. It is called Gaia, The Birth Of An End, and two meters high.
He has his grand golden headdress which is handmade by Kirsty, who has a background in fashion and costume design. Piece took her more than two-and-a-half months to finish.
"I was heavily influenced by the Inca god, and my trip to Tibet in 2012, during which I was specifically collected bells and traditional tribal necklaces.
'I started by building up a whole new lower level pieces, which can help balance the face and surrounding the terrible dimensions of the top section.
'Trimming head is completely hand painted, dyed and beaded by myself and weighs so much, that it had to be wired to a wooden beam in my studio to take the weight off the head of the model,' he says.
Base is made from solid plaster with steel mesh embedded in it for extra strength.
The photographer worked alongside make- up artist Elbie Van Eeden to transform model Marianna Toka goddess .
' Wonderland is in its final stages , ' he tells MailOnline .
' It has been running for four and a half years and is completely self- funded . The goal of the project is to create an extraordinary collection of stories without words .
" The characters are all my own creation, the costumes props and sets . I will make them like mini movie set in the woods around my house . Everything is real and true measure , and may take months to make .
" The characters are not based on anything that already exists - it is the result of my faded memories of the stories my mother read to me as a child , the original drawings of books , poems , paintings mixed up in the dream . I want to create images that people project their own ideas , and lose themselves in
' The project currently has 69 photos in the collection , with another 10 to come . All of the new images , the last 10 , made and taken in the past 9 months , and now we are retuning to them , as well as movies . Each picture has a five -minute behind the scenes film made by FX Media .
" But we 're also a full - length documentary about the entire series to be released online in very close series . I hope to complete everything by March next year .
